Introduction
Diamond cutting is a type of cutting tool widely used for processing hard and brittle materials such as stone, concrete, precast slabs, old and new road surfaces, and ceramics.
A diamond cutting disc mainly consists of two parts: the base (steel core) and the segments. The base serves as the primary support for bonding the segments, while the segments perform the actual cutting during operation. The segments gradually wear down during use, whereas the base remains intact.
The reason the segments are able to cut is that they contain diamond particles. As the hardest known material, diamonds grind and cut the workpiece through friction. These diamond particles are embedded within the segments and are bonded by a metal matrix.
